The Bangkok Experience I'm so glad this Bangkok trip actually materializes! It was nearly on the verge of being cancelled because of the recent flooding incident back in November. Thank goodness the flood had receded before our trip, and the city had resumed their normal activities by the time we arrived on the 5th :) So glad that everything went on smoothly, or else it would be such a disappointment. It was really an unforgettable and eye-opener experience this Bangkok trip, moreover getting to travel with these awesome friends had made this trip so fun :) I'm sure we've got even much closer after this trip together, with the HTHTs at night back at the hotel; we have certainly built a whole new level of trust among us :) I'm missing those tuktuk rides already; so fun but yet dangerous. Not forgetting our screwed up meals everyday, where we can have dinner as late as 11pm and by then, almost all the shops had closed for business. Got to experience travelling via Bangkok's train system upon reaching Suvarnabhumi Bangkok International Airport to our hotel area. Its pretty cool that they uses tokens compared to ez-link cards back here in Singapore. After getting to experience the train system in BKK, I will really appreciate the efficiency of Singapore's MRT system, because we have to wait for another 20+ minutes if we were to miss the train. And so, we started taking photos during the long wait after dumping our luggage over at some corner, and somehow became the centre of attraction. Hahaha. Their trains are also so much narrower and shorter, and what's more, their door somehow coincidentally opens alternatively on each side at each stop, hence the 4 of us behaves like some retards shifting our luggage at every stop. It was a rather long journey to our hotel, largely being accredited to getting lost along the way, and we kept having to ask for directions. Coincidentally and fortuitously, the day we arrived in BKK was the King's birthday. Hence, we took the opportunity to travel to the Grand Palace at night as it is not open to the public on normal days! It was a long walk there, and it was so crowded by the time we arrived, and all us were literally squeezing in to get into the palace. It was really so scenic and pretty inside the palace, and what's more, we get to witness fireworks right there at the Grand Palace in Bangkok! :) And then, we started to do jumpshots, amongst the crowd of people around us! :) So nostalgic thinking back.. It was Dusit Zoo, Siam Ocean World, and shopping at MBK Shopping Mall for Day two! Tried Fish Spa over @ Ocean world, and it was freaking ticklish. Seriously its like getting some electric shock, and I wouldn't want to try it for a second time ever again. Can't stop screaming, and it was really embarrassing! :( Was so scared initially that I accidentally kicked and splashed water at Jeremy! HAHAHAHA. More shopping for Day three! Kaye and I had our manicure done, and poor Shawn and Jeremy got so bored of waiting! And now I've got orangey nails :) Initially I wanted the British flag, but I reckon that will take a long long time to be done. Nevermind, shall try it out myself some day :) And we finally got our long awaited Krispy Kremes, celebrated Jeremy's advance 22nd birthday, and got for our OG mates singlets :) Hope Jeremy likes this surprise we had for him.. Visited Sirlom street and Patpong Night Market later in the night. It was really a sleazy environment where you can see sex toys being put up for sale, being approached for sex shows, and witnessing pole dancing as we passed by those bars. Even the ladies were already seated outside beside the roads already. It may seem quite degrading, but it is still an experience for us I supposed.. It was time to leave Bangkok on the 8th! Didn't managed to do much on the last day, plus the fact that everyone's tired and shagged. But still, we managed to take a walk down Chinatown, and visited Wat Po Temple. To be honest, we really covered a great distance by foot for the past 3 days, particularly on the 1st day. Quite insane to be honest, and having the chance to sit down during meals are really a luxury for us for the 4 days in Bangkok! Anyway, the security in BKK airport is so strict! We even have to take off our watches, belts, etc.. And we even witnessed some who have to take off their shoes. Despite being so tired and shagged, we ended off this trip by RUNNING for the plane! It was quite scary when the announcement for the final call for boarding just kept going on and on, and our boarding gate was at the furthest end. It was quite epic though! Hahahaha. But still, I'm glad we managed to catch our plane back home :) Overall, I really enjoyed this trip and it was a good experience for me. Apart from the communication breakdown with the locals (majority of them converse in Thais and doesn't understand English), the overtly congested traffic and the quality of air there, this trip was great. The company with these 3 friends for the 4 days spent together was really awesome. I'm glad that we have this trip together this holiday, because all of us would be busy starting from next semester onwards - Shawn's going HK for exchange the coming semester, whilst Jeremy and I would be leaving for our exchange programme the next semester, hence planning a trip would be much more difficult under such circumstances. Can't fathom when would be our next overseas trip together, probably we have to wait till Graduation trip already? Nonetheless, thanks Shawn and Jeremy for doing so much for this trip - with the administrative stuffs, the itinerary, etc.. Seriously, a BIG THANK YOU GUYS :D As much as I'd like to travel and get out of Singapore, I've also began to appreciate being and living in Singapore after this trip. After all, home is still the best :) To be honest, the air pollution in BKK is really quite bad. My sinus was quite bad on the first day when we arrived there; fortunately it became much better afterwhich. Moreover, the traffic in Bangkok is really a problem, and we have to be conscious about our safety all the time because we are literally surrounded by vehicles almost everywhere on the road. I felt so thankful while I was on the cab back home with the roads so empty :) What's most scary of this trip is that I was so close to being pickpocketed! Fortunately I could feel someone meddling with my bag, and it being unzipped explains it all. Thankfully my phone and wallet was well hidden inside my bag.. Nonetheless, this trip had made me think twice about my plans to tour USA during my exchange programme. With such poor sense of direction, I really had second thoughts of touring somewhere even much more foreign because I foresee that I will end up getting lost. Thank goodness we had Jeremy and Shawn for this trip! Somehow I'm feeling scared of leaving Singapore in 8 months time to a faraway place on my own. And as much as traveling is fun, it is really quite tiring! Have been sleeping like a pig after I'm back on Thursday and my Mum's complaining! Hahahaha.. However, as the Empire State of Mind is currently playing in my iTunes, I can't help but feel excited because Ernest has plans to fly over to USA to find me after my semester ends next December to tour New York City together. Hopefully it will materialize :) And I'm so glad that I managed to take some really pretty photos this trip, even though I'm an amateur in using a DSLR. I'm so interested in photography these days that I'm considering to take up photography class or something. And its time that I invest in my 3rd lens soon, probably a macro/wide-angle lens :) |
